The Briefing ☠️

Rob Leonard’s most dangerous pressure idea does not require reckless blitz volume. It requires one defender the offense cannot label before the snap.

Camp has supplied the ingredients. Nakobe Dean handles the green dot. Quay Walker has worked on the ball, off the ball and as a blitzer. Kwity Paye has moved through different roles. Together, they create a mechanism: Dean stabilizes the call while Walker and Paye distort the protection picture.

The payoff is simple and vicious. The Raiders can show five possible rushers, send only four and still force the offensive line to spend five blockers solving the wrong problem. That leaves seven defenders in coverage while the quarterback feels a blitz that never technically came.

The Surface Read 🏈

The Box Score Believers will count edge rushers. Maxx Crosby on one side, Paye on the other, then everybody else. That is a clean depth-chart answer to a question the offense never gets to ask so cleanly.

Static edges invite static protection: the center slides, the back scans and the quarterback finds his hot answer. Leonard’s better path is to make the offense declare first. If Walker threatens the line from multiple locations while Dean commands behind him, Las Vegas can change the fourth rusher without changing the pre-snap shell.

First Frames

Start with a five-man presentation: Crosby widened outside the left tackle, Paye reduced over the right guard, Walker walked into the opposite B-gap, with Dean stacked behind the nose. The center must name the pressure point. The back must choose a scan direction. The quarterback must decide which underneath void will open.

The ball has not moved, but the Raiders have already forced three answers.

Now Walker leans toward the line just enough to pull the center’s eyes. Paye’s inside alignment threatens a power rush that demands guard help. Dean stays square, hiding whether he is fitting the run or inserting late. But if the center slides toward Walker, the fourth rusher is no longer where the protection has been taught to find him—
